Yeah, my husband Terry and I are celebrating ten years of marriage this week. Hard to believe that on Friday, July 31st ten years has passed since we said, “I do” and T and I will be turning a curve in our union. This week he commented on how fast the years have passed and I’ve been told by many seasoned women in seasoned relationships that if you feel time has raced by it’s a good sign that the journey has been pleasant. Everyone has asked, what are you going to do to celebrate? I don’t know.
True to form, Mr. Bills has something up his sleeve. Today I was blessed with an early gift along with instructions for the remainder of the weekend and I must say, ” I am so excited!”
Though our marriage isn’t without issues or problems, I can say that I feel truly BLESSED by God to have such a loving mate and my prayer always is that I make him as happy and treat him as abundantly well as he does his appreciative wife.

Article by Author Shay Bills on the Power of the Holy Ghost
ALL POWER BELONGS TO GOD is how I begin chapter eight in my book, Is Your Ghost Holy, (www.shaybills.com) because it is true and so profound that it still has people puzzled in the 21st Century. Saints of God do not have a hard time with the reality that in the beginning was God and God created all things including man and woman. But it is the undeniable power, the unquestionable ability and the unexplainable manifestation of His power that can not be expressed in words.
The Holy Ghost is absolutely necessary for saints of God to walk in the FULLNESS of Christ. There is no anointing without the Holy Ghost, there is no life without the Holy Ghost and there is no power as Paul describes in Phil. 3:10-11 when he says we will be made like Him in His resurrection power. Christians today have tried to take the glory for who God is and what God does. Remember Christ made Himself no reputation, which ignited more power surrounding His being mere mortal man in the eyes of onlookers. But that same Jesus, coequal with the Father and the Holy Ghost, had all power. This being the same Jesus, when He ascended promised the Comforter would come, now resides in the inner man of Christians today and has ALL power. The Church, God’s church, has yet to see the manifestation of the power of the Holy Ghost. The power of the Holy Ghost is not in eloquence, delivery or knowledge. The power of the Holy Ghost is in the brokenness of humans so that all you see and hear is Jesus. Through brokenness the field is leveled and God’s people are on one accord and He can have His perfect work in our life, our ministry, our church, our family and this world. We live as if what happened on the Day of Pentecost ended in the book of Acts, not so. That same power is available and the Holy Ghost fire is still consuming souls today because somewhere people are tarrying, somewhere people are seeking Him and somewhere people are praying THY KINGDOM COME!

I must admit, while in high school much time and effort was spent studying and learning of the impact of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and I took such pride in an organization that spent their days and nights fighting for the cause and plight of blacks and for the injustices of all mankind. But today, today I really have a hard time admitting that since high school, the NAACP has rarely been a topic of conversation or thought in my mind. Why is that? I look around or listen to the news and still see and hear about issues of inadequate schools, high unemployment rates and unequal treatment of blacks within the legal system but the vocal and visible void of representation from a highly respected and effective NAACP is hard to find. As I listened to the President of the United States address the NAACP during it’s 100 year anniversary, I was pleased to find him reiterating the importance of issues that continue to plague our communities and our standing in American society. Unfortunately, once President Obama exited the podium, I was left with a sense of , “what next.” What continues to strike me in the face is the fact that African Americans, Latinos, Hispanics and all other minorities at this time and even some whites, can ALL tell you what’s wrong with America, but so few of the same individuals are willing to look in the mirror and start there. No one in America has an excuse anymore, neither does the NAACP. Do we still need the organization, YES! Do we still believe in the purpose and vision, YES! Do we need for the organization to get back to grassroot issues in our communities, DEFINATELY YES! And can they make a difference, YES they can and we need them to!

With all of the emphasis on the plight of unemployment, corporate downsizing and company closings; it’s important to remember to “go with the flow.” Now is not the time to be so caught up in what happened to you, your friends or family members or what is happening with the economy that you miss an opportunity to grow, to broaden or enhance your scope of abilities and or change for the better. One thing you don’t want to do during these times is stick with the status quo. Instead, if you have a desire to start your own business, take a tip from Nike and just do it. Right now is the best time. Another way of putting it is, if you want to do it now and you are ready to take control of your own financial future for you and your family, their is no better time for you than now. Is it time for a change? You have to answer the question based on what you want out of life and your vision for your life. Scripture says, “without a vision the people perish.” What’s your vision today and who’s perishing becaused you failed to launch in the deep? Most small businesses start out of necessity than any other reason in America. Whether it’s necessary or not for you to open up shop or market your natural talents for income on the side, it is time for all of us to change: change our mindset about what we do, who we are and what we want out of life.

As I sat outside my house with my family assisting and watching my little cousins pop fireworks, I thought about how blessed we all are as Americans for the freedoms we have today, for the freedoms men and women still fight to ensure we posses. I listened to the laughter and witnessed the care-free demeanor of my own 16 year old daughter and silently thanked God for all that the 4th of July represents to millions of people all over the world. But most importantly, I held my cousins and my child close and showered them with three little words that lit up our hearts brighter than bottle rockets, black cat firecrackers and jumping ladybugs, “I love you.”
I pray your 4th of July was just as bright, just as meaningful and just as memorable.
